Athens International Airport S.A. “Eleftherios Venizelos” (AIA) was established in 1996 for the construction, maintenance and operation of ΑΙΑ for 30 years, under a relevant concession agreement (“Airport Development Agreement”). This concession, which is one of the largest and most important agreements between the Greek State and the private sector was due to expire in 2026.

In February 2019, the existing concession agreement was extended by a further 20 years, until 2046.  The right to extend the existing concession agreement had been transferred by the Greek State to HRADF.

AIA’s shareholders are HRADF (30%), GROWTHFUND – The National Fund of Greece (25%), AviAlliance GmbH (26.7%), AviAlliance Capital GmbH (13.3%) and the Copelouzos family (5%).

AIA is the biggest airport in the country, one of the most important transport hubs in Southeastern Europe and the main gateway to Greece, representing approximately 35% of the country’s total air traffic. In 2023, passenger traffic recorded its best performance since AIA started operating, exceeding 28 million passengers, and surpassing pre-Covid-19 levels. More information about AIA can be found on its website www.aia.gr.

In June 2019 HRADF announced the launch of an international tender process for the sale of its 30% stake in AIA’s share capital. Although the tender attracted the interest of major domestic and international investment schemes, from 2020 onwards it was suspended due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on international aviation markets, and in early 2024 it was terminated.

On 15 January 2024, AIA officially announced its intention to proceed with the listing of its shares on the Main Market of the Regulated Securities Market of the Athens Exchange (the “ATHEX”).

The listing of all AIA’s shares on the Athens Stock Exchange will take place through the disposal of the existing shares owned by HRADF (30% of AIA’s shares, i.e. 90,000,000 shares) in a combined offering in Greece and abroad.
