On Thursday, 14 September 2017, the tender process, launched four years prior, was completed, ushering in a new era for TRAINOSE, with the sale and transfer of 100% of the company to Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.p.A., for a total consideration of €45 million.
TRAINOSE S.A. was established in 2005 as a subsidiary of OSE S.A. (“OSE”). In December 2008, the ownership of TRAINOSE was transferred to the State.
The privatisation resulted in the closing of the European Commission state aid case file regarding the €692 million debt of TRAINOSE to OSE.
TRAINOSE aims to provide services for the rail transportation of passengers and freight, to develop, organise and operate urban, suburban, regional, intercity and international passenger and freight railway transportation, as well as bus transportation or combined transportation of passengers and freight, and to provide all manner of logistics services. HRADF holds 100% of the shares of TRAINOSE.
The Italian Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.p.A. is the third-largest railway company in Europe, and it is expected to reinforce and develop TRAINOSE, creating a major railway services provider.
OSE (which is fully owned by the State), in its capacity as manager of the Hellenic National Railway Infrastructure, is responsible for the management, operation, exploitation and maintenance of existing railway infrastructure, the construction and development of new infrastructure, regulation and safety of railway traffic and any other responsibilities provided for by applicable national and European legislation.
