Infrastructure

The radio frequency spectrum is a national resource of high economic importance, as it allows the operation of television/radio stations and mobile telephony providers.

HRADF completed the auction for the concession to the telecommunications companies of the digital dividend for €381 million, namely the radio frequency spectrum that opened up when television signals transitioned from analogue to digital.

More specifically, the digital dividend was granted to Vodafone (€124.501 million), Cosmote (€134.788 million) and Wind (€121.825 million).

The transition of TV signals from analogue to digital has opened up a significant range of the radio frequency spectrum, the most important part of which is also known as the “Digital Dividend”. The “Digital Dividend” as well as other areas of the radio spectrum can be used for new mobile telephony and television broadcasting services such as:

Improved wireless broadband, to accommodate the rapidly growing demand for mobile internet access, improve reception inside buildings and increase coverage in rural areas, which is important for Greece due to its geographical particularities. Broadcasting TV signal to mobile devices (Mobile TV), allowing users to receive and watch multiple channels.

Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), for broadcasting a larger number of digital channels, High Definition signal and other interactive services (e.g. video on demand)
